Program Overview

Program Summary: Nutrition Awareness Campaign (Gabiley) Overview The Waqal Development Organization (WDO) successfully implemented a comprehensive Nutrition Awareness Campaign in Gabiley, specifically designed to combat malnutrition and food insecurity at the household level. The initiative brought together over 30 active participants, including primary caregivers, community health volunteers, and local influencers, to transform how the community approaches diet and health. Core Objectives & Activities The campaign moved beyond theory by focusing on practical, life-saving nutritional habits. Key activities included: The Balanced Plate Initiative: Teaching participants how to maximize the nutritional value of locally available crops—such as sorghum, legumes, and local greens—to create affordable, vitamin-rich meals. Childhood Nutrition Training: Focusing on the "First 1,000 Days" of life, emphasizing the importance of maternal health and proper weaning practices to prevent stunted growth. Practical Screening Skills: Training attendees on how to use MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) tapes to identify early signs of malnutrition in children before they reach a critical stage. Sanitation & Absorption: Highlighting the vital link between clean water (WASH) and nutrition, ensuring that families understand how hygiene prevents illnesses that deplete body nutrients. Impact and Community Reach By training 30+ community leaders, the program created a sustainable knowledge network. These participants are now equipped to act as "Nutrition Ambassadors," sharing these life-saving techniques with their neighbors and extended families. Conclusion The success of this campaign in Gabiley underscores WDO’s commitment to long-term health resilience. By empowering local residents with the knowledge to use their own resources effectively, we are fostering a community that is not only food-secure but nutritionally self-sufficient. This program serves as a scalable model that WDO intends to expand to neighboring districts to ensure a healthier future for all.
